SRC asks all Collectors to remain alert for heavy rain in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) today directed all district Collectors to remain alert as heavy to very heavy rain accompanied with thunderstorm and gusty wind is likely to lash many parts of the State from today under the impact of a low pressure likely to be formed over northwest Bay of Bengal.

Besides, all RDCs, NDRF and fire officials have been asked to be prepared to meet any kind of eventuality.

Speaking to media, Deputy SRC Prabhat Mohapatra said heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur in districts like Ganjam, Puri, Nayagarh, Khorda, Kandhamal, Sambalpur, Cuttack, Boudh and Jagatsinghpur from today till August 15. Besides, districts like Kalahandi, Rayagada, Angul, Gajapati, Kendrapara, Deogarh, Sundergarh, Jharsuguda and Bargarh districts today.

Besides, thunderstorm along with strong surface winds with speed reaching 50 to 60 kmph is likely to occur at several places. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea in view of rough sea conditions.

Meanwhile, the regional MeT center ruled out reports of ‘red alert’ appearing in certain media.
