SRC issues advisory as Cold Wave conditions very likely over some Odisha districts during next 2 days

Bhubaneswar: Special Relief Commissioner (SRC)-Odisha issued an advisory today in view of a prediction made by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre in Bhubaneswar that Cold Wave conditions are very likely over some districts of the State during the next two days.

“People, in the districts under Yellow Warning and also in other areas where intense cold is felt, are advised to stay indoors during the night and early morning and avoid exposure to cold. Movement during especially in two-wheelers or in open cars must be avoided. Necessary safety measures are to be taken while using electrical and gas heating devices or using fire for the said purpose,” the SRC said.

The State government has directed the district Collectors in Odisha to ensure that all school buildings, community buildings and other available buildings are kept open for use as shelter during the night by the homeless and needy people, the official notification emphasised.

The SRC insisted that a report indicating the number of such buildings used as night shelters and the number of people sheltered therein be sent to the Office of SRC on a daily basis till the cold wave situation is over. Public awareness campaigns may also be made on ‘Do’s’ and ‘Don’ts’ to protect the people and livestock from the cold waves. The above arrangements are to be made in both rural and urban areas.
