Srimandir Parikrama Project: INTACH urges Odisha CM to halt construction work

Bhubaneswar: The Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) has shot off a letter to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik seeking his intervention to halt the construction work in the periphery of Srimandir under Puri Heritage Corridor Project, till disposal of the case in Orissa High Court (HC).

In the letter, INTACH reiterated that the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has not given permission to the proposed construction of various  facilities within the prohibited area of 100 metres around Srimandir and told the HC that the excavation works have damaged the archaeological remains around the temple.

Stating that blame game over the project has taken a political hue, the INTUC said, “several allegations and counters are flying thick surcharging the atmosphere while the devotees of Lord Jagannath are totally confused, feeling hurt to no end.”

INTACH said since the High Court is hearing the case and if work is stopped in the interim period, it will make no difference to the execution of the project.

“Being an ardent Jagannath devotee and the highest decision-making authority  in the state, your intervention in halting the constriction work  till the disposal of the case will give healing touch to the troubled minds of the people of Odisha,” the outfit said in the letter.
