State Assembly adjourned sine die; winter session concludes 30 days before schedule

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Assembly Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro today adjourned the House sine die 30 business days ahead of the scheduled conclusion of the Winter Session.

Government Chief Whip Pramila Mallik moved a proposal for adjournment of the House for an indefinite period which was supported by BJD legislator Amar Prasad Satpathy and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Bikram Keshari Arukh.

Opposing the ruling party’s proposal, Congress legislator Tara Prasad Bahinipati said there were lots of issues to be discussed and debate on adjournment notices are yet to be held. The State government did not take the Opposition into confidence on the proposal moved by the Government Chief Whip. There is a need to run the House for a few more days, Bahinipati demanded.

The Speaker said the proceedings of the House were held amid Covid guidelines. He then announced the decision for an adjournment of the House for an indefinite period.

Today afternoon, the House also passed the Appropriation Bill of Rs 11,700 crore amid ruckus.

The Winter Session of the State Assembly ran for 10 business days only.
