Stone falls off Puri Jagannath Temple

Puri: A stone weighing about 2-3 kg fell off Charcha Griha near Majana Mandap on premises of the Jagannath Temple in Puri.

The tiny stone fell from the temple on Friday evening. The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) informed the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) about the incident.

Though the weight of the stone is yet to be calculated, it is assumed to be around 2-3 kg.

According to ASI, monkeys on premises of the temple used to play at the particular site for which the stone might have fallen off the structure yesterday evening.

However, the the exact cause of the incident is yet to be ascertained.

This is for the second time such incident happened at the Jagannath Temple in Puri this year.

On August 3 this year, a piece of plaster had fallen off the centuries old Srimandir’s roof. The lime plaster weighing around 1.5 kg detached from the roof in the sanctum sanctorum causing no harm to anyone or idols of deities inside the temple. The daily rituals were disrupted for a while due to the incident.

Later, the ASI made a statement that the lime plaster fell off the roof due to moisture at the spot.
