Stop trains from Chhattisgarh, Odisha urges Centre

Bhubaneswar: As COVID-19 situation in Chhattisgarh is worsening with each passing day, Odisha Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra today wrote to Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla urging the latter to stop movement of trains from the neighbouring state for at least 15 days.

Currently, as many as 18 special trains are operating between Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

Worth mentioning, districts of Odisha bordering Chhattisgarh are witnessing sharp spike in COVID-19 cases.

Odisha Government has already announced suspension of all public transport from Odisha to Chhattisgarh and vice versa in view of the COVID-19 situation.

The Indian Railways had earlier asked the Odisha Government to take up the matter regarding cancellation of trains to/from Chhattisgarh with the Union Home Ministry.
