Stray dog sterilization programme to resume soon in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: In the wake of increasing cases of stray dog menace in Bhubaneswar, the civic body will resume stray dog sterilization to check their population.

The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has started preparation for the sterilization of stray dogs after the Orissa High Court lifted the stay order on Monday.

“As the High Court had stayed the sterilization programme, the action to prevent stray dogs from reproducing was suspended in areas under the BMC since July 2023. Following several allegations of stray dog attacks reported by the denizens, the BMC had moved to the High Court seeking revocation of the stay order. The BMC had presented its side in the hearing in the court yesterday. The stray dog sterilization will begin soon as the BMC has received the green signal from the court,” informed a senior official in BMC.

Sterilization is a surgical procedure conducted on animals to prevent them from reproducing. This procedure is performed on both male and female dogs, offering various health benefits beyond the primary goal of inhibiting reproduction.
