A herd of over 70 wild elephants – 15 calves and eight tuskers created panic in four villages in Balasore district of Odisha on Sunday.

According to reports, the herd from Jharkhand entered into Tulasi Diha, Bayarsahi, Jaribali and Hatimunda villages near Gopalpur forests in the district early morning toady creating a panic situation among the villagers.
Elephants are entering the area during this period for last few years from neighbouring state Jharkhand after return of a tusker visiting the jungle. This time also the herd came a week after a tusker’s visit to the area.
The forest department has kept a vigil on the herd’s movement.
