Strictly adhere to heat wave advisory for manual labourers: Odisha SRC to Collectors

Bhubaneswar: The state government has asked all district Collectors to strictly adhere to the advisory restricting the working hours for labourers in view of the prevailing heatwave condition in Odisha.

Earlier, the state government had prohibited manual labour from 11 am to 3 pm during the summer.

The IMD, Bhubaneswar, has predicted heatwave condition across the state during the next five days. The prevailing hot and humid weather condition is intolerable for outdoor activities, said Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Satyabrata Sahu in his letter to all district Collectors today.

“It has come to the notice of the government that labourers/workers are still working in the peak hours of the summer in some districts of the state. It is strictly prohibited any type of manual work by the labourers/workers during the peak hours from 11 am to 3 pm during the summer,” added the SRC.

The SRC has warned of initiating action against the officials concerned for any violation of the advisory issued by the state government restricting the working hours for labourers.

“The officials concerned shall be personally held responsible for any violation of the advisory and action shall be initiated under the relevant Sections of the Disaster Management Act, 2005,” said the SRC.
