Student Congress activists allege BMC Mayor’s links with Golden Baba

Bhubaneswar: Alleging nexus of Bhubaneswar Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena with Jyoti Ranjan Beura popularly known as Golden Baba, Chhatra Congress activists today took to streets here demanding the former’s arrest.

However, the situation turned ugly when police tried to prevent the activists from marching towards Naveen Niwas near Sishu Bhawan Square. They were marching towards the CM’s residence from Rajmahal Square here. A scuffle ensued between the student activists and the cops when the former tried to break the police barricades. The activists also hurled rotten tomatoes and eggs at the police during the scuffle.

The activists also burnt effigies of the Mayor during the protest.

Later, the police detained many activists, including Student Congress president Itish Pradhan from the spot to bring the situation under control.

Worth mentioning, Golden Baba was arrested by the Chandraskeharpur police here on December 31 on fraud charges following a complaint lodged by a resident of Barbil in Keonjhar district. A total of 19 cases are pending against Golden Baba in various police stations in the State.
