Student dies ‘after being beaten by teacher’ in Odisha’s Balasore; locals protest with dead body

Balasore: A student was allegedly beaten by his teacher yesterday at Bansidhar Vidyapeeth in Kuligaon village under Khantapada police limits and Remuna block of Balasore for a reason not known yet.

Following which, the pupil succumbed to severe chest pain today morning and locals protested by keeping the dead body in front of the school.

The student was identified as Sumanta Das, the son of Gobinda Chandra Das from Saharda village in the district. Hundreds of irate local villagers along with the deceased’s family staged a Dharna (sit-in) in front of the school’s main gate demanding action against the wrongdoer.

According to a police source, when Sumanta was present in the school, he was beaten by a teacher. The student complained of severe chest pain after returning back home. He writhed in pain at night. Later, the boy was admitted to a nearby hospital by his family for treatment.

Doctors at the health facility declared Sumanta ‘dead’ while he was undergoing treatment.

“Sumanta died due to chest pain after being beaten by his teacher in the school,” some agitating locals alleged.
