Balangir: The morning walk turned tragic as a student was killed after reportedly being run over by a pickup van in Balangir district.

The deceased person has been identified as Purushottam Bhoi, a Plus 2 student and resident of Hardatal village under Belpada Block in Balangir district. He was staying at his maternal uncle's home in Sialbahali for studies.

According to reports, four students from Sialbahali village including Purushottam were on a morning walk. During the period, a speeding pickup van ran over one of the students at Gedabanji Chhak under Balangir Sadar Police Station area, killing him on the spot.

Reacting to the incident, the locals blocked the road by keeping the body on the road demanding compensation.

Sources said that the driver of the pickup van fled from the spot following the accident.
