Students beaten by staff at private coaching centre in Odisha’s Angul; video goes viral

Chhendipada: Some students were allegedly beaten for waking up late by staff at a private coaching centre under Chhendipada police limits in Angul district. A video of the incident went viral today on social media. However, the date when the video was captured has not been ascertained yet.

According to a source, the students used to stay in a hostel of the coaching centre. The inmates are compelled to wake up early in the morning at around 3.00 am, every day. They are insisted on self-study to secure good marks in examinations. As the inmates did not wake up in the wee hours, they were severely beaten with wooden sticks as a corporal punishment, the source expressed.

In the purported video, at least four students are seen while being illegally thrashed by the staff.

It is pertinent to mention here that giving punishment is prohibited in educational institutions.
