10 hurt as students clash with police over faulty valuation in HSC exams

More than 10 persons including some policemen were injured when a clash erupted between student protesters and the police near the office of the Odisha Board of Secondary Education (BSE) here this morning.IMG_0020

According to reports, activists of Democratic Students’ Organisation (DSO), protesting against wrong valuation of answer sheets by the BSE authorities in the annual High School Certificate (HSC) examinations, gheraoed the office this morning.

Apprehending trouble, police forces were deployed in the entrance gate of the office since last night.

When the DSO activists tried to barge into the BSE office through the main gate, they were resisted by the policemen. As a result, a scuffle ensued which later turned violent as the DSO activists allegedly pelted stones at the police. While some policemen were injured, some people passing by the Bajrakabati Road were also injured in stone pelting, sources said.

As the situation went out of control, police resorted to lathi charge in which some students were also injured.

The situation continued to be tense till the reports last came in.
