Students ransack Anandpur College office in Odisha over cancellation of nomination

Tension gripped Anandpur College here in Odisha’s Keonjhar district as some students of the educational institution allegedly ransacked the office of the college after nomination of a presidential candidate got rejected.

According to reports, the nomination paper of Rabindra Behera for the post of president of students’ union was cancelled citing pending of criminal case against him.

Following the incident, supporters of Behera entered into the college office this morning and set furniture and computers on fire, sources said. They also staged a dharna in front of the college gate.

“The office opened at 9.15 am. Around 10-15 students entered the office and damaged chairs, almirah, computers and other assets. The act was pre-planned,” said Prinicipal Bijay Kumar Kar.

The students’ union poll was cancelled and the college was closed sine die after the incident.

Two platoons of police force have been deployed in the campus avoid further untoward situation.
