Students’ union polls in Odisha on Sept 30 likely

Bhubaneswar: The students’ union elections of colleges and universities across Odisha are likely to be conducted on September 30.

Though an official notification in this regard is yet to be published, the poll date was revealed in Common Minimum Standard (CMS) guidelines for the year 2019-20 issued by the Higher Education department on Wednesday.

As per the Academic calendar, the students’ union polls will be held on September 30 and results will be declared on the same day. A notification on election process will be out in third week of September.

As per the schedules mentioned in the guidelines, the parents-teachers meeting for +3 first year, second year and third year students will be held on September 7, 14 and 21 respectively. As the dusshera holidays are scheduled from Oct 3 to Oct 13, the students’ union poll process will be completed on premises of all the educational institutions under Higher Education department by Oct 1.

This year, mid semester examinations will be held before the final semester examinations. The mid semester exam will be conducted in September last week 2019 and February first week of 2020. The final semester examinations may take place in December first week in 2019 and April last week in 2020. The Christmas holidays are scheduled from December 25.

As per the annual schedule, the sports and cultural events will be held between January 2 and 15, next year and the alumni meet in January first week. The results will be declared within 45 days of examinations. The final semester examination results will be out by May second week in universities.

This academic session will have total 72 holidays and 180 study days. The classes will be suspended in colleges and universities during summer vacation between May 9 and June 16.
