Sulia Yatra turns gory as tribals defy ban on animal sacrifice

Defying the prohibitory orders clamped by the district administration on Monday to stop animal sacrifice during Sulia Yatra, the tribals resorted to mass animal sacrifice at Badakhala altar on Tuesday morning.

Around four platoons of armed policemen, deployed at the altar sites, remained mute spectators as the enthusiastic tribals went on performing mass animal sacrifice, reports said.

It may be mentioned that the district administration had a meeting with the Sulia Yatra Committee members on Sunday requesting them to refrain from animal sacrifice and warned them of stringent action if they violate the constitutional norms.

The tribals, however had remained adamant and promised to carry out the ritual as part of their age-old tradition.
