SUM Hosp fire: Odisha govt issues show cause to Khordha CDMO

The Health department of the Odisha government today served a show cause notice to Khordha Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) in connection with the fire mishap at the SUM Hospital last week.

In the notice the CDMO has been asked to explain as how license was granted to SUM Hospital under the Odisha Clinical Establishment Act despite serious violation of safety norms, sources in the know of things revealed.

The department has directed the CDMO as to why action should not be taken against him in the matter.

It may be noted here that Khandagiri police had on Monday had visited the DMET office and sought important documents pertaining to the issuance of the license to SUM Hospital under the Odisha Clinical Establishment Act.

The police team had also questioned Umakant Satpathy, joint director DMET in the matter.

It will be worthwhile to mention here that Khordha Collector Niranjan Sahu had on Friday last washed his hands off by categorically stating that SUM Hospital’s license was renewed on the basis of the CDMO’s No Objection Certificate (NOC).
