Odisha Vigilance sleuths today conducted simultaneous raids at several places in connection with disproportionate assets charges against Jailor of Sundargarh Jail Syed Sahiruddin Ahmed.
Anti-corruption wing officials armed with a search warrant issued by Jeypore Special Vigilance Judge conducted raids at Ahmed’s three-storied building at Samanta Vihar, another three-storied building at Dumu Duma Phase III, shop nos. 5&30 in Dumu Duma Housing Board Colony in the Odisha capital, his room in Sudargarh Jail Guest House and his government quarters at Nabarangpur Jail where he was earlier posted as Jailor.
"We have information of properties of over a crore of rupees. Details about his bank deposits and insurance policies will be known tomorrow since today being Sunday is a holiday. Vigilance will certainly initiate criminal proceedings against him on the basis of their investigation. It will also write to his department to initiate administrative proceedings against him," informed Dr. R P Sharma, Director Vigilance speaking to reporters here today.
Sources said while only a strolley bag has been seized from the Ahmed’s room in the Guest House, several incriminating documents and bank books in his name have been seized during raids at different locations in Bhubaneswar.
Ahmed who has been very recently transferred as Jailor to Sundargarh Jail was earlier posted as Superintendent of Nabarangpur Jail. Currently, he is on sick leave since yesterday and was not present in Sundargarh during the raid, sources added.
Raids were continuing at the time of filing of this report.
