Sunki blast: Odisha govt announces Rs 2 lakh each for injured cops

Cuttack, Feb 5:

The Odisha government today announced financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the five police personnel injured in the landmine blast in Sunki ghat in Koraput district on Wednesday.

“The five injured in the Sunki ghat landmine explosion will be provided with financial aid of Rs 2 lakh each from the Odisha Police Relief and Welfare Fund,” informed Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters), Satyajit Mohanty, here today.

Currently, the five injured are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Visakhapatnam in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

Notably, eight personnel of the Odisha police were killed and five critically injured in a landmine blast near Mungarbhumi on the Sunki ghat while they were travelling in a police vehicle on their way to Cuttack to later undergo training at the Police Training College in Angul.

While six of the 13 travelling in the vehicle died on the spot, two succumbed to their injuries later and five who survived with critical injuries were shifted to the private hospital at Visakhapatnam.
