Sunstroke alert for coastal Odisha

Bhubaneswar: In view of rising in temperature across Odisha, the regional MeT issued sunstroke alert for the coastal parts of state.

Bhubaneswar MeT office predicted that the temperature may touch 40 degree Celsius in one or two places in coastal Odisha on Wednesday.

People are likely to experience severe heat and humidity in the places including Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Talcher, Chandbali and Baripada.

The rise in temperature in coastal parts of Odisha is caused by wind blowing from west direction, said IMD’s regional director in Bhubaneswar Sarat Chandra Sahoo.

Most of the places including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Baripada, Angul and Dhenkanal recorded maximum temperature above 37 degree Celsius in the past few days.

Bhubaneswar and Talcher were that hottest places in Odisha with maximum temperature 39.2 degree Celsius on Tuesday.

The weather was sunny and heat wave prevailed over some parts of Odisha today.

However, the temperature is likely to be reduced from March 15 as the MeT predicted rain and thunder shower till March 18 in coastal and northern parts of the state.

The rain and thunder shower are likely to occur at a few places over north Odisha and at one or two places over south Odisha. The thunder squall accompanied with hail and gusty surface wind speed of 50-60 kmph are likely to occur at one or two places over north and coastal Odisha on March 15, the MeT said.

The temperature is likely to rise again from March 19 in coastal parts of the state.
