Superstition! 28-day-old girl among three branded with hot iron in Odisha

Keonjhar: Superstition of branding children with hot iron in order to cure them from ailments continues in some parts of Odisha. In a shocking incident today, a 28-day-old girl, among three infants were branded with hot iron at a tribal-dominated village in Odisha’s Keonjhar district.

The girl, who sustained severe burn injuries in her body, was admitted to a hospital in critical condition.

According to reports, the incident took place at Juanga Sahi in Bimala panchayat under Telkoi block in the district.

All the three infants were branded with hot iron by a village quack in presence of their respective parents. When the baby girl turned critical she was immediately rushed to Telkoi Community Health Centre.
