Supply Inspector lands in Vigilance net while accepting bribe in Odisha

Gajapati: The Vigilance officials today arrested a Supply Inspector of Gajapati district on charges of accepting bribe to pass pending bills towards transport charges of Public Distribution System (PDS) items.

The Supply Inspector of Nuagada Block, Sabyasachi Mahapatra was caught red handed by the sleuths of Berhampur Division while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 crore from one Siba Palai of Jahada in Ganjam district. Mahapatra was taking the bribe to pass the pending bills in favour of Palai towards transport charges of PDS items for March, June and July, 2020.

Based on a complaint lodged by Palai, the sleuths laid a trap and caught the Supply inspector red handed today.

The bribe money was recovered from the money purse of Mahapatra and seized in presence of witnesses. His both hands wash as well as wash of his money purse gave positive chemical reaction, confirming acceptance and handling of the bribe money.

Mahapatra’s office room at Nuagada in Gajapati and house at Chandanpur in Puri were searched.
An official said Mahapatra was arrested and will be forwarded to the court.

After registering a case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, the sleuths are investigating the matter, the official added.
