Sura Routray not to contest elections anymore

Bhubaneswar: Jatani MLA and veteran Congress leader Suresh Kumar Routray, popularly known as Sura Routray, will no more contest elections, he said at a press conference here today.

The legislator said his youngest son Manmath Routray will contest the poll from Jatani constituency on Congress ticket.

“I have never ‘compromised’ in the last 55 years while being in the Congress party. I have been serving the party honestly and will continue to do so till my death. My son Manmath Routray will contest the upcoming election from the Jatani Assembly Constituency as a Congress candidate,” he said.

Routray was elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly six times from the constituency in 1977 as Janata Party candidate and in 1980, 1985, 1995, 2000 and 2019 as Congress nominee.
