Suresh Mahapatra appointed new OERC chairman

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government today appointed senior bureaucrat Suresh Chandra Mahapatra as the chairman of Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) in Bhubaneswar.

The post was lying vacant since January 16, 2022, after Upendra Nath Behera left OERC.

“In exercise of the power conferred under Sub-section 5 of Section 82 of the Electricity Act, 2003 (No. 36 of 2003) the State Government is pleased to appoint Sri Suresh Chandra Mahapatra, IAS, Chief Secretary & Chief Development Commissioner, Govt. of Odisha as Chairperson, Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) with effect from the date he assumes the Office,” a circular issued by state Energy Department Additional Chief Secretary Nikunja B Dhal mentioned.

Notably, present Chief Secretary Mahapatra is scheduled to retire from service on February 28.

A 1986-batch IAS officer, Mahapatra has been serving as Chief Secretary since December 2020. Though he was scheduled to retire on February 28, 2022, he got two extensions for six months beyond his normal date of superannuation.
