Surya Grahan: Daily rituals at Puri Jagannath Temple changed; check timings

No restriction on devotees for darshan of deities at Jagannath Temple on solar eclipse day tomorrow.

Puri: The daily rituals of Lord Jagannath at Srimandir in Puri have been changed on account of tomorrow’s partial solar eclipse, informed Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) today.

As per official sources, the rituals of deities for tomorrow (October 25) will be held from tonight (October 24 midnight).

In view of Surya Grahan, the Dwarafita niti will be conducted later tonight. The ritual will be carried out at 12.20 am. While Bhitarashodha, Mangala Alati, Mailama, Tadapa and Abakash rituals will be completed in wee hours following Dwarafita niti, other rituals including Surjya Puja, Dwarapala Puja and Radha Damodar Besha will be held by 2 am. The Devaniti (rituals of deities) and cooking will be prohibited at 4.57 am at Srimandir, the temple administration said.

However, the devotees will be allowed to have darshan of deities at the Jagannath Temple throughout the day tomorrow.

As per Hindu calendar, the solar eclipse will begin at 4.56.52 (HH:MM:SS) pm on October 25 (Tuesday) and will last till 6.26.52 (HH:MM:SS) for a period of 1 hour 30 minutes. The celestial event will be visible from all the states in India.
