The man identified as Tito Nayak from Udaypur in Ganjam district was married to the victim Mamata for over 15 years and has three children.

The couple used to stay in Gadhikhala slum near BJB nagar of Bhubaneswar. However, Mamata had to move to Berhampur eight months back as she found herself a job in a private company there.

While she used to call on her family in Bhubaneswar almost every week during initial days, the intervals between two visits increased to 20-25 days of late making Tito suspect that she was having an  extra-marital affair.

Tito had been physically abusing her over the issue on many occasions before. However, things came to a head yesterday when he took her out on the plea of looking for a new house and started stabbing her thighs, legs and hands out of the blue at a lonely place near Forest Park

The woman screamed and somehow managed to escape him and lodged a complaint with the local ‘Mahila Thana’. Tito was later detained by the cops for questioning based on the complaint.
