Suspended BJP leader Seema Patra arrested for assaulting tribal house help

Bhubaneswar/Ranchi: A day after being suspended  from the BJP for allegedly assaulting her tribal house help, Seema Patra was arrested by Ranchi Police today.

A case  was registered at Argora police station in Ranchi against Seema Patra, wife of former IAS officer Maheshwar Patra.

As per media reports, Ranchi Police rescued 29-year-old Sunita from Patra’s residence on August 22 after being tipped off by a government employee. On Tuesday, her statement was recorded before a magistrate where she alleged being physically tortured by her employer.

Sunita complained that Patra brutally assaulted her, kept her hungry and thirsty for days. She also alleged that the local BJP leader broke her teeth with an iron rod and hit her with hot pan.

Recently, video of a hospitalized Sunita narrating the horrors she had endured at Patra’s residence for eight years, went viral on social media. Reacting to the incident, social media users demanded arrest of the BJP woman leader following which the party took stringent action.

Currently, the victim Sunita is undergoing treatment at Ranchi’s Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS).
