SUV overturns after hitting five motorcycles in Odisha’s Boudh; PEO among two dead

Boudh: An SUV overturned after hitting at least five motorcycles in Boudh district and killing two persons including a Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) on the spot.

Three persons have been injured in the mishap.

According to reports, an SUV (Scorpio) en route to Bhubaneswar from Balangir hit five motorcycles one by one at Bahira Chhak in the morning.

Sources said that mishap was so horrific that the motorcycles were scattered all over the road and riders were thrown on the road. The SUV overturned on the road.

Two persons including Ainlapali PEO Gobinda Sahu died on the spot. The incident occurred while he was travelling on his motorcycle to the panchayat office to attend the flag hoisting ceremony on Republic Day.

Another person, who was standing at the roadside, also died in the mishap. However, the driver of the SUV managed to flee from the spot.

The irate locals present at the accident site took the injured persons to a nearby hospital and blocked NH-57 by burning the tyres demanding compensation for the deceased persons’ families.

Till the last report came in, police was trying to pacify the crowd to bring the situation under control.
