Swachh Abhiyan: Daya River water to enter Bindusagar in Odisha capital

Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Bhubaneswar, Feb 12:

As part of Swachh Abhiyan to clean Lingaraj temple’s holy Bindusagar in Odisha capital, the government is planning to fill the lake with Daya River water.

The decision has been taken on basis of a report submitted by Chennai IIT to clean Bindusagar water. A Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared not only for cleaning Bindusagar, but also for another five ponds adjacent to it. Around Rs 10 crore will be spent on the project.

As per the project, all the six lakes — Bindusagar, Godi, Godabari, Kotitirtha, Gangajamuna and Devi Padahara — will be interconnected through pipeline. The water will be brought either from Daya river or Puri Canal to fill Bindusagar by drawing an intake well.

As the water level in the holy lake is low, the polluted water could not be discharged from the pond. With the addition of Daya water into the pond, the polluted water can easily be released. A special Eater will be installed to purify the water.

Similarly, arrangement will be made for people for offering shradha by building another pool near Bindusagar. The pool will be cleaned regularly and filled with fresh water.
