Swagatika was subjected to mental torture by G Udayagiri IIC, alleges elder brother

Kandhamal: The elder brother of G Udayagiri police Sub-Inspector Swagatika Behera has alleged harassment and mental torture by the Inspector In-Charge (IIC) of the police station as the reason behind her sister’s death.

Swagatika’s elder brother Manoranjan alleged that the lady IIC of G Udayagiri police station was harassing his sister for last several days.

“Swagatika used to tell me that the IIC of the police station was harassing her and torturing her mentally. She was weeping while talking to me over phone yesterday. Swagatika told me that the IIC would kill her through mental torture. Today, I could not contact her despite repeated attempts,” Manoranjan said.

Swagatika’s elder brother also sought a high-level probe into the incident. “The Crime Branch should investigate the case,” he said.

Notably, Swagatika was found hanging at her official residence at G Udayagiri police station today morning. The lady Sub-Inspector was staying alone in her official residence.

Sources, meanwhile, claimed that Swagatika had talked to a few of her colleagues over phone today morning.

Swagatika’s family members and friends have claimed that she was a soft-spoken girl and she used to wear a smile on her face.

“Swagatika was unmarried and she was supporting her family financially. She had never misbehaved with anybody,” said a relative.
