Swargadwara land grab: Odisha govt to initiate criminal proceedings against wrongdoers

The Odisha government will initiate criminal proceedings against those involved in the grabbing of Swargadwara land, informed A B Ota RDC (Central).

“Swargadwara had 16.735 acres of land initially. Physically as of now there is only one acre land where cremation is taking place at present. Process to make it encroachment-free phase-wise will begin. At the preliminary phase we have found evidence of several irregularities committed. We have found evidence of land grabbing through forged registration. Criminal proceedings will begin against the wrongdoers,” Ota told reporters after receiving the preliminary inquiry report from the nine-member panel headed by Puri Collector Arvind Agarwal here today.

“There are 158 plots and 133 holdings which have been recorded in the name of individuals. The inquiry committee has also found out the plot-wise details of the land recorded in the name of individuals and has also examined the flow of title,” he added.

It may be mentioned here that the RDC had on March 23 after an emergency meeting announced constitution of the nine-member panel to probe into allegations of Swargadwara land grab. The RDC had asked the panel to submit its report within seven days.
