Swindling of engineering college’s Rs 97 lakh in Bhubaneswar: Accused’s boyfriend held

Bhubaneswar: The Twin City Commissionerate Police arrested a man over his alleged involvement in embezzling Rs 97 lakh of a private engineering college in the city.

He has been identified as Vikash Kumar, boyfriend of prime accused Payal Mohapatra, an employee of the college who was earlier arrested.

The Tamando police apprehended Kumar from Jharkhand while he will be produced before court today, reports said.

Mohapatra (27), accountant of the educational institution, was arrested on April 29 on the charges of misappropriation of college fees to the tune of Rs 97 lakh.

The woman, a resident of 42 Mouza in Cuttack district, had allegedly transferred the amount to her lover Vikash Kumar, who is a former student of the college. She was in charge of transferring the fees collected from the students to the account of the university.

The money was sent to him through UPI mode within a span of one year. The college authorities had lodged a complaint regarding the offence with the Tamando police.
