Bhubaneswar: The Vigilance sleuths detained the Tahsildar of Chandrapur in Rayagada district of Odisha after the recovery of suspected ill-gotten money to the tune of Rs 1.15 lakh from his possession today.

The Vigilance sleuths intercepted Tahsildar Bichitrananda Nayak on his way to Rayagada from Chandrapur. The Tahsildar had allegedly collected huge sums as bribe.

Upon seeing the Vigilance team, the Tahsildar threw away a bag containing cash worth Rs 1.15 lakh and managed to flee the spot.

The Vigilance sleuths, however, recovered the cash. They later traced the Tahsildar to Rayagada and detained him.

Simultaneous searches are being carried out at the office and residential quarters of the Tahsildar and other locations linked to him to unearth any possible disproportionate asset, said the Vigilance Department.

The Tahsildar is also being interrogated to ascertain the source of the cash recovered from the bag, it added.
