Talcher burns at 45.5 degree as heat wave intensifies across Odisha

Bhubaneswar, May 1:

The industrial town of Talcher today remained the hottest place in Odisha once again with temperature reaching 45.5 degree Celsius as the ongoing heat wave got worse across the state.

Reports from Talcher said the town wore deserted look by 10 AM as the all trading and business establishments downed their shutters to escape from the blistering heat.Heat Wave Temp

Besides Talcher, similar conditions were felt in the coal belt in Jharsuguda district.

As many as 14 towns and cities in the state clocked 40 degree and above today, the Met reports said.

While Chandbali recorded 41.2 degree, it was 41.2 in Bhubaneswar, 43.1 in Angul, 41.5 in Baripada, 42.5 in Jharsuguda, Keonjhargarh and Sambalpur, 41.5 in Sundargarh, 42 in Hirakud, 41 in Bhawanipatna, 41.6 in Phulbani, 42 in Titlagarh, 40 in Malkangiri and 43.5 in Sonepur.

In its release today, the local Met office said the heat wave would continue across the state for the next 24 hours after which there is a strong likelihood that the temperature would come down because rain or thundershowers are expected in some parts of the state.
