Chennai: Tamil Nadu witnessed heavy to very heavy rainfall on Friday, leaving areas in several districts inundated. As many as 21 districts have declared holidays for educational institutions.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of further heavy rains in several parts of the state including Chennai for the next 4-5 days.

The IMD predicted that a cyclonic circulation lies over the Comorin area and adjoining Sri Lanka coasts, and strong northeasterly winds are prevailing over Tamil Nadu coast and south coastal Andhra Pradesh at lower levels, and under their influence, heavy rain will be lashing Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and south Andhra Pradesh and Lakshadweep for the next 4-5 days.

Squally wind, around 60 kmph, is likely over Comorin area, Gulf of Mannar and along and offsSouth Tamil Nadu coast and adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal on Friday and Saturday.

Weather Department also warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Chennai and Nagapattinam districts as well as in delta districts of the state. The IMD also predicted that the entire Tamil Nadu coast will get heavy rains.

Day 1 (26.11.2021): Thunderstorm with scattered heavy to isolated very heavy rain is likely to occur over Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanyakumari, Ramanathapuram, Cuddalore, Tiruvannamalai, Chengalpattu, Villupuram and Kallakurichi districts of Tamilnadu. Thunderstorm with scattered heavy rain is likely to occur over Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Madurai, Thenkasi, Theni, Dindigul and delta districts of Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area. Thunderstorm with moderate rain is likely to occur at most places over rest Tamilnadu.

Day 2 (27.11.2021): Thunderstorm with scattered heavy to isolated very heavy rain is likely to occur over Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Thenkasi, Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu districts of Tamilnadu. Thunderstorm with scattered heavy rain is likely to occur over Kanyakumari, Ramanathapuram, Tiruchirapalli, Karur, Coimbatore and Nilgiris districts of Tamilnadu. Thunderstorm with moderate rain is likely to occur at most places over rest Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area.

Day 3 (28.11.2021): Thunderstorm with scattered heavy to isolated very heavy rain is likely to occur over Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu and Villupuram districts of Tamilnadu. Thunderstorm with scattered heavy rain is likely to occur over Ariyalur, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, Tiruchirapalli, Karur, Madurai and delta districts of Tamilnadu and Karaikal area. Thunderstorm with moderate rain is likely to occur at most places over rest Tamilnadu and Puducherry.

Day 4 (29.11.2021): Thunderstorm with heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, Kanyakumari, Thenkasi, Madurai, Sivaganga, Pudukottai, Tiruvallur, Chennai, Nilgiris, Coimbatore and Kancheepuram districts of Tamilnadu. Thunderstorm with moderate rain is also likely to occur at most places over rest Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area.

Day 5 (30.11.2021): Thunderstorm with light to moderate rain is likely to occur at a few places over Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area.
