Tata Steel Supports Women SHGs for Dairy Initiatives at Gopalpur

Gopalpur, Sept 25:

Recognising the importance of women in the dairy cooperative movement of our country and raising their participation towards income generation, thrift and leadership, Tata Steel has been supporting the women SHGs in the peripheral villages of Gopalpur.

As a part of these efforts, Tata Steel has provided support to the members of Parbati Self Help Group of Brajanagar in Karapalli GP in procuring hybrid cows with an aim of ensuring yield of milk three times more of the present milk yield. The SHG members forming the Women Milk Producer Committee believe that with Tata Steel’s support in obtaining quality live stocks after thorough examination of their health, breed and nutrition status, collection at the village based centre will be enhanced to around 150 litres per day.

The women dairy cooperative comprises of more than 40 households, which are linked to OMFED, have successfully implemented the ‘Anand’ model involving women entrepreneurial skills. In addition to the financial support for procuring the cows, specialists from TSRDS have been rendering hand holding support in identifying feasibility for maintenance and marketing initiatives.

Describing this as a benchmark setting effort, the PRI members having attended the event said that it will go a long way in enabling Women SHGs to achieve economic self-reliance.
