Bhubaneswar: A tea stall owner allegedly died due to the high decibel sound of DJ music during Saraswati Puja idol immersion ceremony in Odisha’s Rourkela city yesterday.

The deceased has been identified as Premnath Barabhaya (50) of Ganesh Market area in the Steel City.

According to sources, some local youths and shopkeepers had organised the immersion ceremony of Saraswati idols yesterday. The organizers had hired a private party from Bhadrak district to play DJ music during the immersion ceremony, sources said.

Barabhaya allegedly fell sick due to the high decibel sound of the DG music during the ceremony. He was immediately rushed to Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) in a critical condition. However, Barabhaya was declared dead on arrival by the doctors, sources said.

Soon after Barabhaya’s death, locals gheraoed Raghunathpali police station in Rourkela and sought appropriate action in connection with the incident.

The police have seized the DJ music and launched a probe into the incident.
