Teacher held for impregnating ASHA worker in Odisha’s Nabarangpur

Dabugaon: A school teacher has been arrested on charges of impregnating an ASHA worker at Architguda village under Dabugaon police limits in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district.

Accused Jadumani Bhatara (38) has previously been married twice, sources said.

According to sources, Jadumani had married a woman of Haldiguda under Dhamanguda panchayat some years ago. They couple was blessed with a boy child.

Jadumani tied the knot with a woman of Papadahandi area after his first wife was diagnosed with mental ailments. He has two sons from his second marriage, sources said.

Around a year ago, Jadumani forcibly kept physical relation with ASHA worker Champa Bhatara of his villager in the absence of the latter’s husband, a migrant worker. He had threatened to eliminate the ASHA worker’s family if she would reveal the illicit affair to anyone.

The ASHA worker lodged a complaint against Jadumani with Dabugaon police on September 18 after she got impregnated due to the illicit affair.

The police have registered a case (143/22) as per the complaint filed by the ASHA worker.

“We have arrested the accused teacher and produced him in a local court after conducting a medical examination on him,” said Dabugaon police Sub-Inspector Bijuram Bagha.
