Teacher suspended for participating in election rally in Odisha

Boudh: A teacher was suspended for participating in a rally and procession carried out by a political party for an election campaign in Boudh district.

Taking disciplinary action against the erring schoolteacher of Government Nodal High School, Dahya, the Boudh Collector and District Election Officer placed Assistant Teacher Sanghamitra Mallick under suspension with immediate effect.

The action was taken for violating the model code of conduct of the Election Commission of India.

As per the ECI order dated March 15, 2024, and Odisha Government Servant’s Conduct Rules, 1959, no government servant shall be a member of or be otherwise associated with any political or communal party or any organisation which takes part in politics or communal activities, nor shall he/she take part or subscribe in aid of assist in any other manner, any political or communal movement or activity.

According to reports, Sanghamitra Mallick had participated in a political rally taken out from Palaspat to Ambagaon in Kantamal Assembly Constituency in Boudh district two days ago, which was a gross violation of guidelines set by the ECI for the ensuing General Elections.
