Teenager slashes minor boy’s neck in Odisha capital

A profusely bleeding minor boy was today rescued from a slum in Odisha capital in a critical condition after the attacker slashed the minor’s neck before fleeing the scene.

The bloody incident took place this morning at Durga Mandap Basti in Satya Nagar under Kharavel Nagar police sation limits in the city.

The attacker slit the five-year-old boy’s neck with a sharp weapon and fled the spot.

Bikash (name changed) is a plus two (science) student of a private college in Nayapally area, reports said.

He is the neibhbour of the victim and attacked the boy while he was playing.

The teenage attacker has a police case against him, sources added.

“I saw him brandishing a knife. He has done it along. He would have brought it from his home. He is a drug abuser,” a neighbour said.

Panic gripped the area after the incident. The dwellers rushed to the local police station and lodged a complaint.

“We are questioning the neighbours to find out the reason behind the incident. The details are quite sketchy and we cannot say anything convincingly. The attacker and the victim are known to each other. The investigation is on,” Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said.

The critically injured minor was first rushed to the Capital Hospital here for treatment and later shifted to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Post Graduate Institute of Paediatrics (Sishu Bhawan) in Cuttack.

He absconded after attacking the minor boy.

Meanwhile, the Kharavel Nagar police are investigating into the incident.
