Tehsil record keeper under Vigilance scanner for accepting bribe in Odisha’s Bolangir

Muribahal: A senior revenue assistant and record keeper was caught red-handed today for accepting a bribe. He is presently working in Muribahal tehsil office of Bolangir district. The record keeper identified as Heblet Barla demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 10,000 to settle a mutation case.

According to an official source, sleuths from Sambalpur, Bolangir, and Subarnapur Vigilance divisions took part in the operation. Barla was nabbed by the joint team and was later taken to Bolangir for interrogation in connection with the bribe case.

Barla had demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a former Zilla Parishad member named Ishwar Bhoi, who hails from Debanga locality of the district, to settle a mutation case of 2019. Ishwar was running to the tehsil office times and again but to no avail. He was being intentionally put into trouble.

As per a deal between Barla and Ishwar, the latter paid Rs 10,000 as a bribe in the first phase. The Vigilance team had laid a trap leading to the nab of Barla by the anti-corruption agency. A Vigilance case has been registered and a detailed probe is underway.
