Tennis legend Martina Navratilova takes dig at PM Modi, Amit Shah; Twitter explodes

New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: Tennis legend Martina Navratilova, who is a constant bane to the right-wing ecosystem in the United States of America, has this time turned her gaze towards India.

Quote tweeting a news item on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Navratilova wrote: ““And for my next joke…” accompanied by an emoji for astonishment and another of a clown.

The news item in question is an article from the Hindustan Times that carried the caption, “Union home minister Amit Shah on Sunday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not a ‘dictator’ but the most democratic leader the country has ever seen.”

PM Modi completed 20 years in public office last week and Shah’s quotes in the article were sourced from an interview with Sansad TV.

As soon as Navratilova tweeted her comment, Twitter exploded with thousands congratulating her for her stance. However, many were quick to point out that she might face backlash quite similar to that faced by singer Rihanna who had earlier this year tweeted in support of the nationwide farmers’ protest.

Navratilova is known for her scorn for former US President Donald Trump. A winner of 18 Grand Slam titles, Navratilova once also took a dig at Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan when the latter cited ‘vulgar clothing’ as one of the reasons for higher rape cases.
