Tension in Odisha’s Rayagada town after college student’s death in accident

Tension ran high following the death of a  girl student of a local college  in a road accident in Odisha’s Rayagada town today.

Rayagada accidentAccording to reports, the deceased, identified as Babita Benia, a Plus Two first year Arts student of Rayagada Women’s College, was returning to her home at Rivalakana Rampur village of Kolnara block with her brother Sushant when a private bus hit the bike in which they were travelling,  on the overbridge here.

While Babita died on the spot, her brother was seriously injured.

Following the accident, angry college students and the public staged a road blockade at JK Pur Road for over three hours.

Following information, Rayagada SP K Siva Subramanyam, ADM Laxmikanta Behera and PA, ITDA, Gorachand Gamang rushed to the spot and pacified the students, who later withdrew the blockade after the college authorities agreed to pay a compensation of Rs 2.5 lakh to the family of the deceased.
