Cuttack: Eminent litterateur and legendary poet Padma Shri Jayanta Mahapatra has left behind him a handwritten note, in which the nonagenarian expressed his last wishes.
The noted poet wanted all his existing letters, typescripts, and incomplete manuscripts of literary works to be burned after his demise. However, the reason as to why he had desired to burn these personal belongings has not been ascertained yet.

The departed poet had wished that his mortal remains be cremated in the electric crematorium at Khannagar locality in Cuttack and not be buried. “It should be taken in a van or ambulance by a few close friends/ relatives who would be present at that time. This should be done as early as possible after my death,” the Padma Shri awardee mentioned in his handwritten note.
A patch of land measuring 400 square feet located at the southwest corner of the existing house be given to one lady named J Sarojini who has faithfully and tirelessly served the poet’s family for over three decades. “This we (my late wife Jyotsna Mahapatra, our son Mohan Mahapatra and I) decided after careful consideration,” the litterateur had stated.
Worth mentioning, the renowned poet breathed his last on Sunday night at the age of 95 while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack, after suffering from Pneumonia.
The noted Indian English poet was previously suffering from old-age-related complications.
