These markets, haats in Odisha Capital sealed for Covid norm violation

Bhubaneswar: Amid the raging coronavirus disease, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) today sealed markets and shops in different parts of the city for violation of Covid-19 protocols.

In a joint enforcement, the BMC and the Police Commissionerate sealed the markets and haats in the city for 48 hours.

The following markets/haats were sealed in Bhubaneswar due to violation of COVID-19 guidelines:

South-East Zone:

Market Building, Unit-2 closed for 48 Hours for violation of Social Distancing Guidelines

Non-veg Fast Food Lane in Bapuji Nagar sealed by BMC for 48 hrs in view of social distancing violations

South-West Zone:

Non-veg market at Rental Chhaka

12 roadside eateries in ID Market Nayapalli, one fruits shop in Ruchika Market, Barmunda

Some roadside eateries

North Zone:

VSS Nagar Market

Six roadside eateries in Damana Square, Patia Square

“We have conducted strict enforcement drives in market areas today and it will continue in the coming days in view of larger public interest and to contain the spread of Covid-19 infections in Bhubaneswar. Covid infections are on a rising trend,” BMC Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary.

He further stated, “Though we are taking up enforcement measures to ensure Covid appropriate behavior, we need the cooperation of the people especially in market areas the way they had supported the administration in the first phase. Otherwise, we shall be forced to take more stringent measures. With the disciplined behavior and support of the citizens, we will be able to contain the spread of the coronavirus.”

The city reported another 1,044 Covid positive in last 24 hours till 9 AM today.
