This Odisha district makes Aadhaar mandatory for marriage

Ganjam: With an aim to prevent child marriages, the Ganjam district administration made the submission of Aadhaar card of a bride and a groom mandatory for the conduct of marriage.

Bride and groom must produce their Aadhaar cards before marriage. The purpose behind the move is to verify the age of bride and groom through the document, informed Ganjam District Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange.

As per law, the marriageable age for a bride is 18 years and a groom is 21 years.

The Collector added child marriage affects health and families of both a bridge and a groom. To avoid all these issues, the district administration has taken this decision, he added.
