This rickshaw driver in West Bengal gives free rides on answering GK questions

Bhubaneswar/West Bengal: It’s often the streets and lanes of the busiest towns and cities from where one churns out the most unusual and unpolished, yet inspiring people and stories. One such unusual story was recently discovered from the streets of Howrah.

Suranjan Karmarkar, an e-rickshaw (or, toto) driver in Liluah neighbourhood of West Bengal’s Howrah district has turned a fresh face on social media platform Facebook after one Sankalan Sarkar narrated his toto ride experience with Karmarkar.

On November 20, Sankalan Sarkar took to his Facebook profile and narrated his experience riding in Karmarkar’s toto.

“Today I met one of the most interesting people I’ve ever come across in Liluah,” Sarkar wrote.

He further narrated how the toto driver offered to ‘let go of the fare’ if he managed to answer the latter’s 15 general questions.

Toto driver Karmarkar asked Sarkar and his wife questions like the lyricist of ‘Jana Gana Mana’, name of the first CM of West Bengal, the world’s first test-tube baby and so on.

While dropping Sarkar and his wife at their destination, Karmarkar told the couple that they could look him up on Google as ‘Adbhut Totowala.’ He also told the couple that he was a member of the Liluah Book Fair Foundation. He had to drop out of school when he was in Class 6 due to financial constraints. But his curiosity for knowledge never faded and he still keeps reading till late hours in the night.
