Three days after marriage, bride hangs self in Odisha

Dhenkanal: Barely three days after wedlock, a bride reportedly hung herself inside her room at Bidabandha village in Dhenkanal district today.

The deceased has been identified as Jharana Naik, daughter of Harihar Naik of Kalanda village under Hindol police limits in Dhenkanal district.

According to reports, Jharana had married Madan Mohan Naik, a resident of Bidabandha village, on February 17 this year. She was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside her bedroom on fourth day of her marriage in the morning. The Dhenkanal Sadar Police recovered the body and sent for post-mortem.

The newly wed woman had psychological disorder, the parents of the deceased have told the police in writing.

As per their statement, Jharana had developed the psychological disorders five years ago when she was studying Class 10. She was under medication after consulting doctors in a state-run hospital in Hindol.

Twelve days back, the parents had fixed her marriage with Madan Mohan Naik, son of Muralidhar Naik, without considering her mental illnesses.

She was said to be in good condition in her in-laws house.

However, due to mental disorders, she took extreme step by hanging herself with her clothes from a ceiling fan inside her bedroom at around 8.00 am on Saturday, father Harihar Naik said in a statement in writing.

The bereaved parents made it clear that nobody in family of their daughter’s in-laws was responsible for her death.
