Three youths drowned while taking bath in Brahmani river on the outskirts of Odisha's Steel City of Rourkela this morning.

The deceased have been identified as P Sarat Babu(24), his brother P Shyam Babu (23) of Railway Colony area of Rourkela and Pankaj Tambe, a resident of Mumbai.

Sources said Pankaj had come to the house of Sarat and Shyam to attend the marriage ceremony of their elder brother. He was scheduled to return to Mumbai tonight.

On Thursday morning, the trio had informed the family members that they are going to visit Hanuman Vatika. However, they went to Tarkera ghat at Brahmani river for a bath.

While bathing, Pankaj and Shyam slipped into deep waters. Seeing this, Sarat tried to rescue them, but was drowned.

At this, the locals present there, informed the Raghunathpalli police who along with a fire brigade team rushed to the spot.

The fire brigade personnel retrieved body of Sarat and fished out the bodies of Shyam and Pankaj after an hour.

The bodies were later taken to Rourkela Government Hospital for post mortem.

Police later handed over the bodies to the family members, RC Dora, IIC of Raghunathpalli Police Station, told OST.
